    Åstol (Swedish pronunciation:[ˈôːstuːl])[2] is a locality situated south of Tjörn Municipality (close to Marstrand), Västra Götaland County, Sweden with inhabitants in [1]

    Åstol is an island and a locality in Tjörn Municipality in Rönnäng Parish situated in the Province of Bohuslän. In , Åstol lost its status as an urban area due to its population decreasing to under residents. Instead, the island came to constitute a small residential area. The island is located just south of Tjörn (near Marstrand) and has approximately year-round residents. The island can be reached via the Hakefjord ferry which departs from Rönnäng on Tjörn and also serves Tjörnekalv, as well as Åstol's neighboring island, Dyrön. During the summertime, there is a ferry which connects the island to and from Marstrand.

    Åstol was known as a fishing hub with a net bindery (workshop for making fish nets), as well as an ice plant that supplied ice to both Åstol's fishing fleets and other nearby fishing camps and bunker boats.     Tjörn in Bohuslän

    To visit Tjörn, Sweden's seventh largest island, is to move right into the holiday spirit. Nature is barren yet beautiful, and the main island of Tjörn is surrounded by a large number of smaller islands, islets and skerries. In summer, the island attracts many tourists who want to enjoy the west coast idyll.

    Tjörn is located on the west coast of Bohuslän, just south of Orust and just north of Marstrand. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge to Stenungsund, and there is also a bridge connection to Orust.

    Getting to Tjörn

    You can easily get to Tjörn by car, either via Stenungsund or via Orust. The night before, we spent the night in our motorhome at the car park at Hamnplan Stenkajen in Stenungsund. Here we thought we were relatively nice, with electricity and other services.

    Åstol fanns en fiskeplats. På Åstol fanns dessutom ett vadbinderi (trålverkstad), isverk, som ej bara försåg Åstolflottan tillsammans is utan även fiskelägena runt omkring och flera bunkerbåtar. detta fanns även en strandkassa som tillhandahöll allt likt behövdes inom fisket, flera speceriaffärer samt ett bageri. Under senare delen från talet gick det ej att bygga fler byggnad på ön, det fanns inga fler tomter. Fiskenäringen upphörde vid talet då även dem moderna ståltrålarna, en sektion bara en par tid gamla, såldes av.

    Åstol var beläget i Stenkyrka socken samt ingick efter kommunreformen inom Stenkyrka landskommun. I denna inrättades till orten 29 januari Tjörnek
