Both theoretical and applied research in statistics is conducted by our faculty members. We offer a wide range of courses in statistics within different educational programs at the social science faculty. In total, we offer over hours of undergraduate courses per academic year.
The department is, moreover, giving Programs in Statistics and Data Science on both Bachelor and Master level, whose students get a thorough ground in statistical modeling and data analysis.
Graduate education is an essential component of our research activities. The research conducted at the department is varied and has for vocation to be grounded on applications in the social and medical sciences. Research projects are often conducted in collaboration with researchers from other scientific fields, both at a national and international level.

Enheten f&#;r statistik
Statistik äger ca 30 medarbetare vilket b&#;de undervisar och bedriver forskning. F&#;rutom v&#;ra schema i statistik och uppgifter science, undervisar vi inom ett stort antal andra utbildningsprogram.
Vi bedriver både grundforskning samt tillämpad undersökning i nära samarbete tillsammans med andra empiriska vetenskaper. Genom vår specifika kompetens existerar vi ett resurs till hela Umeå universitet inom undervisning, undersökning och samverkan.
Statistisk teori behandlar metoder samt tekniker på grund av att samla in, bearbeta och analysera data inom syfte för att bidra mot kunskapsbildningen inom alla empiriska vetenskaper. Statistik är därmed en formell vetenskap, tillsammans tillämpningar inom alla kontext där uppgifter insamlas.

Master's Programme in Statistics and Data Science
- 60 credits
This one-year programme offers broad and high-level training in both applied and computational statistics as well as in the foundations of statistical theory. You will gain solid knowledge in statistical methods and hone your skills to critically analyse and interpret data, and to communicate the results of your analysis. You can choose from elective courses in Statistics or Mathematical Statistics to tailor your degree.
The programme is offered by the AACSB accredited Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics.
