Several injured in blast at apartment buildings in Sweden
At least 25 people were injured in an explosion that damaged two adjacent apartment buildings in the southern Swedish city of Linkoping on Friday, police said.
The explosion blew out windows and destroyed balconies in the buildings in the central city, about kilometers ( miles) southwest of Stockholm. One of the buildings had five stories, while the other had four.
Police said a bomb squad had been deployed to the area after the blast, which occurred shortly after UTC, and a criminal investigation had been opened.
"Many people called in about a very powerful explosion which has led to a large number of windows being blown out," police spokesman Bjorn Oberg said.
"So far we have been able to confirm that there are a number of people with light injuries. We have cordoned off a large area, several blocks," he said.
Oberg said he could not provide information about what might have caused the blast.
Blast not terror-related
Police spokeswoman Asa Willsund said there was no indication that the blast was an act of terrorism.

En mycket kraftig explosion skedde i Linköping i morse.
25 personer skadades lindrigt och två är kvar på sjukhus.
Ett hundratal lägenheter fick skador på fönster och balkonger.
– Det är många som inte kommer kunna flytta hem ikväll, säger fastighetsägaren Fredrik Törnkvist.

Vid 09 på fredagsmorgonen inträffade den kraftiga explosionen på Ådalagatan, korsningen Hamngatan, i Linköping.
– Vi började få ett stort antal samtal från folk om en kraftig explosion i centrala Linköping, säger Björn Öberg vid polisens ledningscentral.
Ett stort pådrag larmades till platsen med många polispatruller, räddningstjänst, nationella bombskyddet och 20 ambulanser.

The Linköping explosion was a bombing of a residential area in Linköping, Sweden, on 7 June The police believe that the explosion was part of a rivalry between criminal gangs. Unlike most criminal incidents involving bombs or explosive material in Sweden, the attack damaged more than homes and caused substantial damage to an entire apartment block. The New York Post stated that 25 people were injured, and Expressen reported that seven were taken to hospital.
